Trans-European interoperability by creating generally accepted standards:

  • Online application process across European borders
  • More efficient communication between judicial authorities in Europe

The e-CODEX project ( e-Justice Communication via Online Data Exchange) is intended to improve the cross-border access to justice for citizens and businesses in Europe, and also to advance the electronic collaboration between judicial systems within Europe.

The main objectives in this context are the establishment of common standards across Europe for

  • identity management regarding rights and roles
  • electronic signature
  • court documents
  • exchange of documents and data
  • electronic payment of court fees

Such harmonized standards will establish the sustained interoperability even between existing, yet differently designed national IT solutions. This is of particular practical relevance for cross-border European proceedings involving minor demands, European dunning proceedings, mutual assistance proceedings and European arrest warrants.

The e-CODEX project is co-financed by the European Commission as part of ICT-PSP.
